Course overview
This module is suitable for all qualified health practitioners and primary care staff who have a role in the delivery of low-level CBT interventions.
The module will help you to develop an understanding of the key concepts and theoretical cornerstones underpinning cognitive behavioural work with anxiety and depression.
The knowledge and skills developed through the module will provide the primary frameworks for understanding CBT-oriented assessments, formulations and treatment strategies.
This course aims to provide students with opportunities to critically analyse the theoretical underpinnings and evidence base for the use of cognitive behavioural therapy and develop approaches for use in their work.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course a student will be able to:
- Analyse the theoretical and evidence base for cognitive behavioural therapy and consider its links to clinical/therapeutic practice.
- Develop effective assessment, formulation, intervention, therapeutic and evaluation skills in order to meet the needs of clients with a range of mental health problems.
- Develop reflective skills in order to evaluate outcomes of interventions and critically reflect on personal and professional development to enhance theoretical and practice knowledge.
Assessment
Formulation essay
- 100% weighting
- 2500 words.
- Minimum pass mark 40%
- The assignment will focus on the student’s ability to present a cognitive behavioural formulation of the information presented in the case study (provided) identifying maintaining factors and suitable targets for CBT work.
Reflective essay
- Work based reflective log to be completed by the student and submitted with the case study.
