Course overview

This module is designed specifically for healthcare professionals who are registered and actively engaged in both hospital and pre-hospital settings. It targets individuals who already possess a foundational understanding of cardiac monitoring and basic knowledge of interpreting 12-lead ECGs, aiming to enhance their expertise in this crucial area of patient care.

You can access this module either as a student of the Associate Student Health and Social Care course or by undertaking the Pre-Hospital Care route of the BSc Hons Professional Practice in Health and Social Care course.

Interpretation of 12-lead ECGs has become an integral tool in the medical environment, aiding the professional’s ability to make effective clinical decisions for patients. You will develop an underpinning knowledge of 12-lead ECG interpretation to enhance your skills and knowledge used in practice.

The module will run over a 10-week period between January and the end of April.


Learning Outcomes

  • You will be taught to accurately record 12-lead ECGs and develop a systematic methodology for their interpretation and review.
  • You will acquire the skills and knowledge required to critically analyse the significance of dysrhythmias and their influence on the patient journey.

Assessed by an exam in term 2.
